It is my honour to stand before you as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Rasheed Omokayode Atanda Shoderu (ROAS) Foundation Scholarship Program for Tertiary Institution Students and
SIR RASHEED OMOKAYODE ATANDA SHODERU FOUNDATION
Engr. (Chief) Rasheed Omokayode Shoderu graduated from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, witha a b B.Sc. (Eng.) Degree in 1967.
An accomplished COREN registered Engineer and a Fellow of many Institutions, National and International, Chief 'Kayode Shoderu became a Civil Engineering Consultant, having garnered cognate and quality experience through post-graduate training under the ICE agreement with a Glasgow Consulting Engineeringt firm M/S Crouch 8& Hogg,followed with employment by the Nigeria Railway Corporation and B.P. (Nigeria) Limited (Now Forte Oil, through several processes of name changing)r respectively, and joining other Colleagues in the profession to establish an Engineering and Town Planning Consulting outfit, Vasons Concept Group, in 1973. He joined the firm, from BP as a full time Partner in 1976 and remained a Principal Partner of the Firm until his retirement from executive position in December, 2004. He has since been the Chairman of the incorporated consulting firm, Vasons Concept Consultants Ltd, the successor to Vasons Concept Group. He is a past National Treasurer and Council Member of Nigerian Society of Engineers and a past Vice-President of the Association of Consulting Engineers Nigeria (now Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN).
While in full time practice, Chief Shoderu found time to serve on a number of State Appointments, Cock 2s a Member of Board of Directors, Lagos State Metro line Limited; again, as a Member of the Governing Council of Lagos State Waste Disposal Board (now Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA); and also, as a member of Lagos State University (LASU) Advisory Committee on the Master Plan of the Institution.
A committed and devoted Leader, Sir Kayode Shoderu has continually been involved, right from his youth on to his old age, in the social and economic development of his home Division, Ikorodu and Lagos State through his actÃve narticipation in several Organizations, Societies and Clubs. He is an tand Chairman, Board of Trustees of Oriwu Club, Ikorodu; a Past Inaugural Member, a Past Pr,an inaugural member and Past Chairman of lkorodu Division President of Rotary Club of konst Chaiman of Ikorodu Town Hall Management Board; and arance of Leaders of Ikorodu Division (COLID). Outside the Resource Development Group; Division, he is a Life Member of both island Club, Lagos and Lagos Country Club, lkeja. He has won a Past Chief Coordinator of the C number of recognition awards, through his voluntary services, from most of those organizations.
Heis currently the Chairman of the Liaison Group of the Eminent Persons of lkorodu Division (EPID). neis also the Chairman of Ikorodu Model City Implementation Committee (IMCIC), a committee set CPby the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRM Oba (Engr) Kabir Adewale Shotobi. The Committee, among other things, ,handled the r new Ayangburen Palace Extension Project while under construction. He is also the Chairman of Ikorodu Trust Property & Investment Ltd, the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Economic Council and, currently the President of Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI).
In recognition of his contribution to the development of Ipakodo he was conferred with the honorary chieftaincy title of the Gbobaniyi of Ipakodo in 1981 by the first Sekumade of lpakodo, Late Oba L. R. Hassan Jimbo while the inCumbent Sekumade, HRM Oba (Engr) Basiru Aremu Sotorwa FNSE, Osomeku l, during his coronation in April 2018 also elevated him to the Position of Otun of Ipakodo, for his exemplary y role in the affairs of lpakodo before, during and after the presentation of staffof office and the subsequent coronation of His Royal Majesty.
All his other various commitments notwithstanding, Chief Shoderu never relented in his service to the Church. He has continually been involved in the activities and development of his church Methodist Church Nigeria, at various times and in different capacities, right from Local Church level up to Conference level over the years, including service to Methodist Theological Institute, Sagarnu as a Member of the governing Board and Treasurer of the Institute for a period of sixteen years. in recognition of his services to the Church, he was installed the Otun Baba ljo off Patriarch Bolaii Methodist Cathedral, in July, 2005 and later awarded the Fellowship of Ikorodu Diocese (FOD), during the Maiden Awards, same year. He was also conferred with the highest Honorific Award of Knight of John Wesley (KJW) by the Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria in July, 2009. Itis gratifying to note that Sir Engr Chief Kayode Shoderu was unanimously appointed as the Baba ljo of Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedral, through the decision of the Church Counciat its meeting on 19th December 2020, the installation and conferment service was performed on 21st March 2021 to the glory of God.
Chief Shoderu has served in a number of Societies in the Cathedral and other religious organizations in Ikorodu and beyond. He is a member and past President of one of the oldest Societies in the Cathedral- the Christ Little Band, which is also a menber Band of the National Council of Christ Little Band, Nigeria (NCCLBN), now Association of Christ Little Bands, Nigeria (ACLBN). He is a past Vice-President of the National Body and one of the Facilitators of its National Secretariat Project in Ayobo, Lagos. He is a founder and Proto-President of The Cathedral League, a front line society in the Cathedral. He is an Associate of the Wesley Guild of the Cathedral; a Patron of the Cathedral Choir, a Patron of Ore-Ofe Society of the Trinity Anglican Church, Ikorodu; and, also, a Patron of the Redemption Society of the Methodist Church, Isale General, Ogbomoso.
As an esteemed and committed family man, Sir Engr Chief Kayode Shoderu is the Patriarch of the entire Shoderu Family, home and abroad; Head of Dosunmu Family of Aga; Head, Sodipe Olowu Descendants of Itunwolo; Head, Fawunmi branch of Odumeru Tufegboye Royal Family; and Head, Fujena Royal Family,a branch of Olisa Family of Itundomiganran; all in Ikorodu. A quiet philanthropist and Jerusalem Pilgrim, Chief Shoderu who has touched the lives of a number of individuals and organizations in Ikorodu, the State and beyond, is married and blessed with children, grandchildren and a great grandchild -all to thegloryof God. MoreToday, we we are gathered to formally launch the ROAS Foundation in honour of Sir (Engr.) Chief R. O. Shoderu KJW on his 85th Birthday and to also recognize the accomplishments of our scholarship students who have demonstrated determination, integrity, and perseverance in winners coming adversity, as well as have critical financial need. We celebrate their hard work, perseverance, and I desire to make apositive impact in their chosen fields.
